Colorful, moderately priced hotel with Old World charm, just steps from the beach – Budget-friendly with a central location, this family-run hotel is a Montego Bay mainstay. It's named for the white-sand beach across the street, once the private bathing spot of a prominent 1880s-era doctor and now part of a protected marine park. The Old World charm blends with an atmosphere kept lively by rum-punch parties, Jamaican buffets, reggae, and limbo contests.
Accommodations: Guest accommodations are available in three categories: Standard Rooms, Superior Rooms, and Suites, all of which are housed within the main 3-story building. Room have colorful, tropically-themed decor and rattan furnishings, twin or queen-sized beds, and tiled combination baths. Amenities include air-conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV, telephone, and bath amenities. Superior Rooms have balconies. Suites are 1-bedroom apartments with separate living areas and kitchenettes. All categories have a maximum occupancy of 4 guests, and either garden or pool views. Connecting units are available, and in-room safes are available for a fee.
Dining & Entertainment: A poolside grill serves breakfast and dinner, with a menu of authentic Jamaican cuisine made with all fresh, locally acquired ingredients. Seating is available indoors and on an outdoor dining terrace. The bar serves tropical concoctions with reggae music to set the mood, and hosts the weekly rum-punch parties on Tuesdays and Thursdays, must-attend events for guests. There is also a piano lounge which features live performers. The gaming lounge has a glittering decor and plenty of slot machines. The location is ideal for travelers who like to explore their surroundings. It’s centrally located on Montego Bay’s “Hip Strip,” and adjacent to the neighborhood’s bars, restaurants, shops, and nightlife, including Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. There is no direct beach access, and on-site amenities are limited. NOTE: Wandering off the property alone is not advisable. Check with the concierge for escorted travel around the area if you have not pre-booked such arrangements.
Recreation: On-site diversions include the pool, sunbathing on the furnished sundeck, an open-air weight and exercise room, and a whirlpool. Doctor’s Cave Beach is just across the street, renowned for its palm-fringed white sand and clear turquoise waters. Protective coral reefs keep the waters calm and ideal for swimming, and also provide some excellent underwater scenery for snorkelers. A variety of diversions, including golf and water sports, are available nearby, as are local excursions. Ask your Travel Consultant about reserving these off-site activities.
