The paperwork and legalities are a breeze if you are a US Citizen. Generally you will not encounter a big delay for residency before the ceremony is performed. Although Statutory laws are in effect on Marriages in the United States, they are pretty simple laws and requirements for the most part. No rushing to get passports, because you don't need them!
